Paris, March 21 — Subsidiary of ROSATOM State Atomic Energy Corporation UMATEX Group, signed agreements with Indian companies for localization of the carbon fabrics production based on Russian carbon fibre, General Director of UMATEX Group Alexander Tyunin told journalists on the sidelines of Composite World Exhibition 2017 in Paris.
“The current programs in India with carbon fibre products depend on the supplies from various foreign sources. We are ready for localization of carbon fibre products in India, as well as support in joint development and production of consumer goods, including helmets and high pressure cylinders”, he added.
According to him, Russian and Indian side will also explore the opportunities for localization in India of the prepreg production based on carbon fibre and supplying of multifunctional resins and other epoxy systems from India for the production of prepregs in Russia.
"Today, composites are increasingly replacing metals in aircraft, motor industry and shipbuilding, wind energy, medicine, construction and other industries," Tyunin said.
Regional Vice President of Rusatom International Network, which operates a Regional centre of ROSATOM in Mumbai, Alexey Pimenov added that the new direction of cooperation will enable a number of industries in India to reach out to a whole new level through the use of high-tech materials.
“ROSATOM has proved to be a reliable partner of India in such a strategically significant area like nuclear energy. The decision to localize production confirms Russia's readiness to share modern technology with its strategic partner India and go beyond the construction of nuclear power plants,” he said.
According to him, the localization of production will reduce the cost of the final product and, accordingly, will create opportunities for joint work of Russia and India in the third countries in Asia and Africa.
