December 07, 2022 - Andrey Nikitin, Governor of the Novgorod region, paid a working visit to Kudankulam NPP construction site.

The delegation included Evgeny Bogdanov - First Deputy Governor of the Novgorod Region, Andrey Lebedev - Vice President of ASE JSC for Projects in India, Natalya Orlovskaya - Director General of Kontur PJSC, Oleg Avdeev - General Consul of RF in Chennai.

The delegation visited the construction sites of Power Units 3,4 and 5,6 of Kudankulam NPP where the guests acquainted themselves with the course of construction and saw the main facilities of the power units - the reactor and the turbine buildings. The delegation also viewed the main pumping stations of Units 5,6 and hydraulic structures of all the four future power units of the NPP.

The visit to the site was followed by a meeting with the personnel involved in Kudankulam NPP construction project.

In conclusion of the visit, the guests participated in the trees planting ceremony.

I would like to thank the colleagues from Rosatom for the possibility to visit the NPP construction site.   Kontur PSC (SPLAV), the manufacturing company from Novgorod, is one of the leading machine building enterprises in Russia.  It produces valves for nuclear power plants, including Kudankulam NPP. It is very important for us that the company cooperates on such a significant infrastructural project, we will support our colleagues so that the enterprise would develop and remain a reliable supplier for Rosatom”, said Andrey Nikitin summing up the results of the visit.

Andrey Lebedev, Vice President of ASE JSC, believes that the visit was productive and intensive”. In his opinion, the visit started “a dialogue for expanding the possibilities of cooperation between the regions of Russia and India, including the issues of localization of manufacture of Russian equipment for the needs of the existing NPPs of the Russian design and those which are under construction and will be built in the future”.

Information about Kudankulam NPP Project

Power units No 3,4 and 5,6 are the second and the third stages of Kudankulam NPP constructed under AES-92 design with VVER-1000 (V-412) reactor type. The technical solutions implemented in Kudankulam design characterize further evolutionary development of VVER-reactor NPPs of high power and transition to creation of a new, reliable, safe and feasible power unit.

New power units of Kudankulam NPP comply with the most up-to-date safety requirements of IAEA.

The developer - the technical customer of the facility - is Nuclear Power Corporation of India. The general designer and supplier of equipment is JSC ASE.

Currently, power units No. 1, 2 of Kudandulam NPP are operating at the capacity established by the operation schedule.

Russia is consistently developing international trade and economic relations, focusing on cooperation with friendly countries. Despite external restrictions, the domestic economy is growing its export potential and supplies goods, services and raw materials all over the world.
