Three-day science festival “IN FACT” with scientific and educational activities focused on nuclear science and technologies will take place in Dhaka. The event is jointly organised by Bangladesh and Russia and supported by Nuclear Asia as a media partner to raise awareness among the young generation in Bangladesh in the field of nuclear power through arrangements of popular and demanded formats.

Rostislav Kuznetsov, Head of Chair of Radiochemistry, Dimitrovgrad Engineering Technological Institute (a part of Russia`s National Research Nuclear University MEPhI), Tatiana Sharabura, radiation oncologist, Head of Radiotherapy Department of Chelyabinsk Regional Clinical Center of Oncology and Nuclear Medicine and Elia Kabanov, a popular science journalist to talk on how inventions make the life better, nuclear technologies and their use in everyday life, nuclear medicine and existing  myths and truth about radiation safety.

Among the participants from Bangladesh are M. Ali Zulquarnain and Shafiqul Islam Bhuyan. Both are renowned nuclear experts and Former Chairmen of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC).

The program also includes games with debunking of nuclear myths, screenings of documentary films, career slam, interactive sessions and quest “Great inventions and discoveries”.

The IN FACT Science Festival will take place at different venues: Jahangirnagar University on September 25, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novotheatre and University of Dhaka on September 26 and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and Russian Center of Science and Culture (RCSC) on September 27.

In November, 2011 Bangladesh and Russia signed an intergovernmental agreement to build Rooppur nuclear power plant. The construction site of first nuclear project in Bangladesh is located 160 km from Dhaka on the east bank of the Padma river. The first of two units is expected to go into operation in 2023 and the second unit – in 2024.
