The upper reactor semivessel for Rooppur NPP Unit 1 in Bangladesh has been assembled at the Volgodonsk Branch of JSC “AEM-technology” “Atommash” (a company of the machine-building division Atomenergomash of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom).

The structure consists of three components - two shells and a flange. The shells were assembled during the manufacture by means of a cross-piece having a lifting capacity of 180 tons, the maximum allowable non-coincidence of joined edges of the shells is up to 1 mm. Then the upper reactor semivessel was installed on a welding unit to perform anticorrosive overlaying in the area of the separating ring. A total of 300 kg of wire and 400 kg of flux will be used for overlaying. The temperature of heating during the operation is 150-300 degrees. The whole process will take 3 days. Then specialists will proceed with welding of circumferential welds of the upper semivessel.

The reactor is a vertical cylindrical vessel with an elliptical bottom housing the core and Internals. It is tightly closed on the top with a cover with the installed reactor regulating and protection unit and mechanism drives and nozzles for cables of in-core instrumentation detectors. There are coolant supply and removal nozzles and emergency coolant supply nozzles during circuit depressurization in the upper part of the vessel.

JSC “Atomenergomash” is a supplier of the whole set of the reactor compartment equipment for Rooppur NPP and a considerable part of the turbine island equipment. The companies of the division manufacture reactors, steam generators, pumping and heat-exchanging equipment.

Rooppur NPP is designed and manufactured according to the Russian design. The plant will consist of two Units having a power of 1200 MW each with WWER-type reactors, generation 3+.
