The delegation of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh headed by the Minister of Science and Technologies Yeafesh Osman and Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in the Russian Federation Hoque S.M. Saiful visited the Volgodonsk Branch of JSC AEM-technology (a company of the machine-building division of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom).

The main purpose of the visit was to become familiar with the manufacturing of nuclear stream supply systems (NSSS) for two Units of Rooppur NPP currently under construction in Bangladesh.

The guests visited the main production workshops, where the reactor pressure vessel and steam generators are being manufactured. They took a great interest in the manufactured equipment, in particular in welding of an upper reactor semi-vessel for Rooppur NPP Unit 1. The specialists of the plant told about the manufacturing process of equipment belonging to safety class 1. The representatives of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh observed the process of coil embedding in a steam generator at the clean assembly section.

JSC “AEM-technology” manufactures two reactor plants with internals, a reactor cover and an upper unit and two sets of steam generators for two Units of Rooppur NPP.

According to the Minister of Science and Technology Yeafesh Osman, they see that many people are involved in the project, and these people are highly-qualified specialists, engineers and managers and all of them are working for their country with all their sole. “I’ve made sure that time is allocated to implement the Rooppur NPP Project, and this time is used without any delay as far as possible. There are no problems regarding quality. We are absolutely sure that we will obtain a perfectly implemented project in Bangladesh”, — Yeafesh Osman mentioned.

The Rooppur NPP is being designed and constructed according to the Russian design. The plant will consist of two Units with VVER-type reactors, the life cycle of which makes up 60 years and may be extended by 20 years. The power of each Unit will be 1200 MW. NPP Unit 1 will start its operation in 2023, and Unit 2 in 2024. JSC “AEM-technology” will manufacture reactors and sets of steam generators for two NPP Units.
