Rosatom’s FNNP (floating nuclear power plant) Akademik Lomonosov, currently in trial operation in the town of Pevek in Russia’s Chukotka Region, has supplied more than 21 million kWh of electricity to the isolated network of the Chaun-Bilibino energy system (one of three autonomous energy grids in Chukotka) as of February 26, 2020.

Akademik Lomonosov is expected to be commissioned for commercial operation in summer 2020 after additional tests and the issuance of a permit by Russia’s nuclear energy watchdog Rostekhnadzor.

After this, the FNPP will supply the town of Pevek with thermal energy. The first subdistrict of the town will be connected to heat supply starting from summer 2020; the rest of the town will be connected by 2021.
