A 4.5 months training course on “Major Construction Works Management” intended for the Rooppur Nuclear Nuclear Power Plant staff began at Rosatom Technical Academy in the Russian city Obninsk last week. By the end of the current year Rusatom Service, the "Electrical Power" division of The Rosatom State Corporation will train three more groups and the number of total trained specialists from Rooppur project will exceed 1400 persons.

The present course includes both theoretical and practical program. Upon completion of the theoretical part the students will gain necessary knowledge in administrative and construction matters, specially on e acceptance of equipments and its mounting.

Practical part includes on-site training at the Novovoronezh NPP, which is one of the oldest nuclear power supplier plants in Russia.

Specialists from Bushehr NPP (Iran), Paks NPP (Hungary), Hanhikivi-1 NPP (Finland) have already passed training with certification in the Rosatom Technical Academy.

The Rooppur NPP is being constructed 160 km away from the capital of Bangladesh, the city of Dhaka, under the terms of the General contract dated December 25th, 2015. The General contractor for the construction of the Rooppur NPP is Atomstroyexport, JSC (the Engineering Division of the State Corporation Rosatom).

A Russian project with VVER-1200 type reactors, successfully implemented at the power unit №1 of the Novovoronezh-2 NPP, was chosen for the first nuclear power plant of Bangladesh. In 2017 the new Russian power unit was rated among the world’s top three nuclear power units according to POWER, an influential international periodical (USA).

In 2015-2016 preparatory works were carried out on the construction site, and construction documentation was developed along with documents for the justification of licenses for the placement and construction of the units. In 2017 the implementation of the Rooppur NPP construction project continued in accordance with the schedule. On November 4, 2017, the regulatory authority of Bangladesh (BAERA) issued license for the design and construction of the NPP. The First Concrete Pouring Ceremony was conducted at the power unit №1 on the 30th of November, 2017, and at the power unit №2 –on the 14th of July.

Each construction stage of the Rooppur NPP in Bangladesh will be closely monitored both by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and by the national regulatory authority.
