At the Rooppur NPP construction site in the People's Republic of Bangladesh (with the Rosatom State Corporation Engineering Division being the general designer and general contractor), installation of the first of the three tiers of the inner containment dome has just been finished at the reactor building of power unit 2. The large-dimensioned structure being 195 tons in size and 42.8 meters in diameter, has been installed in the design position, i.e. at a height of 44.1 meters.

“Installation of the inner containment dome is both technologically complicated and one of the most dramatic stages in the construction of the reactor unit. With all three tiers of the dome having been installed, this will discover the scope of work for the installation of the reactor pressure vessel,” said Alexei Deriy, ASE JSC Vice President, Director of the Rooppur NPP construction project.

The assembly and installation of the inner containment dome are carried out by specialists from the Trest RosSEM LLC Branch (being part of the Rosatom Engineering Division). The structure was lifted by LR11350 crane (its lifting capacity being 1,350 tons) within 4.5 hours, approximately.

The pre-assembly of all three tiers of the inner containment dome took 151 day, from the end of September till the beginning of March. Just to compare with Unit 1, this process took 207 days at that time. It has become possible to reduce the time by almost two months, by using the experience gained.

The inner containment is one of the main elements of the NPP safety system. Not only protects it the reactor compartment, but also provides a support for pipeline penetrations and the polar crane, servicing the nuclear reactor.

The Rooppur NPP equipped with two VVER-1200 reactors of the total 2400 MW capacity is being constructed under the Russian design160 km from Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, in accordance with General Contract dated December 25, 2015. The Russian design with VVER-1200 reactors was selected for the first NPP in Bangladesh, which was successfully implemented at two units of the Novovoronezh NPP. This is an evolutionary Generation III+ design which fully complies with all the international safety requirements.

Rosatom State Corporation Engineering Division unites the leading companies of the nuclear industry, namely: Atomstroyexport JSC (Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, branches in Russia and abroad), Joint Design Institute - Atomenergoproekt JSC (Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, St. Petersburg branches - design institutes, branches in Russia and abroad, R&D branches) and subsidiary construction organizations.

The Engineering Division ranks first in the world by the order portfolio and the number of NPPs constructed simultaneously across the world.

About 80% of the Division’s revenues originate from foreign projects.

The Engineering Division implements construction projects for high-power NPPs in Russia and across the world, renders a full range of EPC, EP, EPC(M) services including project management and design activities, and develops Multi-D technologies for the management of complex engineering facilities. The Division relies on the achievements of the Russian nuclear industry and innovative state-of-the-art technologies.

We construct reliable and safe NPPs with Gen III+ VVER reactors that are in line with all international requirements and recommendations.
