The reactor pressure vessel and the core melt localization device (the so-called “core catcher”) for Kudankulam power unit No 4 have been loaded on board the «ZEA FOCUS» cargo vessel in St.Petersburg.

“In spite of inherent difficulties due to the pressure under which the port is operating at the end of the year”, said Alexander Kvasha, First Deputy Director for Projects in India, “we fulfilled our obligations towards the Customer and shipped the necessary equipment”.

The core catcher, the reactor vessel with internals and the steam generators are only part of the equipment which is the most essential on the critical way of construction of the reactor for power unit No 4, which was part of the 13th vessel shipment.

The total volume of the shipped equipment is 9 000 m3, the distance to the port of destination is over 15 000 km. The scheduled arrival at the construction site of Kudankulam unit 4 is the end of the second decade of January 2020.
