In early December, within the framework of the Rossotrudnichestvo’s New Generation program a delegation of young journalists from Bangladesh, specializing in nuclear power, visited Russian nuclear facilities. Press tour participants included representatives of such media as Jamuna Television, The Daily Amader Shomoy, The Maasranga Television, The Daily Kaler Kantho, and The Daily Independent.

The delegates visited the Information Center of the Rostov Nuclear Power Plant and the Volgodonsk subsidiary of AEM-Technology, Atommash (part of Rosatom’s engineering division Atomenergomash), as well as operating and under-construction power units of the Rostov NPP.

At Atommash, the journalists got acquainted with its history and key achievements of recent years, and visited the main industrial complex No.1, where they could see the principal technological processes of nuclear vessel equipment production, as well as unique machining, welding and thermal-and-press equipment. The journalists could also watch the manufacture of steam generators and the preparation of reactor vessels for hydro-testing before shipment.

At the Rostov NPP, the Bengali journalists could see operating power units and the fourth power unit, which is now under construction. They also got acquainted with the Multi-D technology, aimed at optimizing building and assembly works and based on detailed planning of operations. Application of this technology ensures accurate planning of the construction schedule and solution of problems connected with the construction stage at the design stage.

“The Rostov NPP is successfully operating 3 power units of the VVER-1000 type. In 2014, two months ahead of schedule, we launched the 3rd power unit, which was possible, among other things, due to the application of the Multi-D technology. It is planned that the Rooppur NPP in Bangladesh will use the VVER-1200 technology; it is a III+ generation project based on the VVER-1000 technology, which is completely meets the current ‘post-Fukushima’ safety requirements. The VVER technology is widely used all over the world and has been applied practically for more than 50 years. Thanks to projects in India, China, and Iran, Rosatom gained unique experience in the construction of complex hi-tech engineering projects in southern latitudes, in very hot and humid climate, with limited access to fresh water, which is a very pressing issue in Bangladesh,” said Deputy Chief Engineer for the operation of the second stage of the Rostov NPP, Alexander Belyaev.

Rossotrudnichestvo has been implementing a program of short-term fact-finding trips to Russia for young representatives of political, civic, scientific and business circles of foreign states since 2011. A fundamental novelty of this year’s projects is the fact that programs of visits are being developed in close cooperation with Russian partners specializing in particular subject areas.
