The Branch of JSC “AEM-technology” “Atommash” in Volgodonsk (a part of machine building subdivision of ROSATOM - “Atomenergomash”) has completed the Hydraulic Tests of Reactor Pressure Vessel for the first power unit of NPP "Rooppur" under construction in the Republic of Bangladesh.

Hydraulic Tests were performed by using the three-level underground caisson. In order to install the reactor pressure vessel in the design position, the support ring was first lowered into the caisson, and then VVER-1200 type reactor vessel was placed on top of it.

The equipment was moved by using the crane with a lifting capacity of 600 tons. The 11 meter Reactor Pressure Vessel was lowered with the high accuracy into the caisson and closed with a process cover. After having been fully sealed, the item was filled with distilled water, heated up to 100 degrees and the maximum pressure (24.5 MPa) was built up, which is 1.4 times higher than the working pressure.

Reactor Pressure Vessel testing for the first power unit of Rooppur NPP has confirmed the strength of base metal and welded joints of Reactor Pressure Vessel.

Reactor Pressure Vessel is a vertical cylindrical vessel with elliptical bottom and contains a reactor core and the Internals. The top of Reactor Pressure Vessel is sealed with a cover with mechanism drives and control and protection elements of Reactor Pressure Vessel installed on it and Nozzles for sensor cable outlet for in-core monitoring.
