The Volgodonsk Branch of JSC "AEM-technology" "Atommash" (part of the Rosatom Engineering Division - "Atomenergomash") completed the feeding of the first Steam Generator for the "Rooppur" NPP.
Within 22 days, the specialists were performing the orderly mounting of the elements inside the Steam Generator Vessel. A tube bundle is formed of 11 thousand coils. In total, specialists need to mount 105 horizontal rows.
The operation is performed according to the continuous flow system: first, production experts perform a bending process of the stainless tube into coils of various dimensions from 10 to 16 meters. Then they perform cutting, grinding and tests. In a clean assembly, finished coils with a diameter of 16 mm are installed according to a special scheme; the ends of the tubes are mounted in the primary circuit collectors with the subsequent performance of rolling and welding.
A Steam Generator is a heat exchanger; it is part of reactor plant equipment and refers to items of the first safety class. The length of the Steam Generator is about 14 meters, diameter - more than 4 m, weight - 350 tons. Four Steam Generators are included in the equipment of one nuclear power unit.
The next stage of manufacture involves welding of the bottoms. The equipment will be subjected to hydraulic tests and a whole range of test measures, including eddy current test of SG tubes.
The "Rooppur" NPP is designed and built according to the Russian project. The plant will consist of two power units with a capacity of 1200 MW each, with VVER reactors of 3+ generation.
