On April 5, 2017 representatives of ASE Group of Companies (a subsidiary of ROSATOM State Atomic Energy Corporation) and Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL) signed a Joint Statement on Final Takeover of Unit 1 of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KKNPP).
 By signing the document, the Russian and Indian sides confirmed fulfillment of all warranty terms and obligations of the contractor (ASE Group of Companies) for the construction of the Unit 1. 
 "The warranty period run showed reliable and safe operation of Unit 1. Thus, the Indian side confirms that ASE Group of Companies, which is general contractor, has fulfilled all its tasks in full and accurately", said Andrei Lebedev, Vice President of ASE for projects in South Asia.
"Onwards operation of unit 1 is totally within the responsibility of the Indian side", he added.
The commercial operation and the warranty period of Unit 1 of KKNPP started in December, 2014. 
On March 30, 2017 Joint Protocol on provisional acceptance of Unit 2 of the Kudankulam Power Plant was signed, which marked the start of its commercial operation.

The Kudankulam NPP is based on the AO Atomenergoproject design with water-water type (VVER-1000) reactors, and fully meets the requirements of regulations and technical standards of Russia, IAEA and is certified for compliance with the requirements of the European association of operating organizations (European Utility Requirements (EUR).  Kudankulam NPP is constructed in the State of Tamil Nadu in India within the framework of the Russian-Indian agreement dated November 20, 1988 and Addendum dated June 21, 1998.
